Laura's Story

My first impression of Ashbaugh Beal was that they were people I'd like to hang out with — they were funny, interesting, and genuine. I was thrilled to receive an offer to work as a summer associate. My summer was a terrific learning experience and more than I could have asked for.

On my first day at the firm, I was welcomed by staff and attorneys and made to feel comfortable in my office overlooking beautiful Seattle and Elliot Bay. Partners from various practice groups came to my office and immediately gave me meaningful legal work. It was exhilarating to be part of a team working to achieve success for clients. On my first day, I knew I was a valued member of Ashbaugh Beal.

Throughout the summer, my work grew even more interesting, challenging, and important. From exploring disputed property on Alki Beach in an adverse possession case to helping decide the outcome of an arbitration proceeding to writing a memo to a client about the likelihood of a contractual provision surviving the contract's termination, I learned about a variety of legal issues. I was lucky to have such sharp individuals critique my research and writing. Perhaps the highlight of my summer came on my last day when I observed a partner argue two motions I had worked on, and the motions were granted! I walked away from Ashbaugh Beal with a sense of true accomplishment.

Aside from the exciting work, the people at Ashbaugh Beal were fantastic and there were fun social events. Even before I started working, my husband and I attended the firm's holiday party—complete with Seattle seafood, drinks, and dancing! Throughout the summer, the firm gave me the opportunity to play in a golf tournament (my first 18-holer!), go to a Mariner's game, "Ride The Ducks of Seattle™" tour, and attend many lunches and happy hours with co-workers. All in all, I made good friends at Ashbaugh Beal.

I look forward to starting my career at Ashbaugh Beal. It is a place where clients come first and success is the goal — it is a place I am proud to be a part of.
